Does power corrupt or are the corrupted being elected into power?
The latter seems to be the case as of late.
Take August-elected, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He just outlawed any and all Western music from his country. That means that if you’re in Iran and you get caught listening to Kenny G, you’ll be punished (and likely severely if midde-eastern laws remain consistent). This guy’s council has been quoted saying: “Blocking indecent and Western music from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting is required.” Required by whom? And how the fuck is Kenny G indecent? This isn’t a clash of cultural opinion here. I’m not ignorant of the fact that my culture here in the West is very much different from the middle east. But c’mon…it’s Kenny fuckin’ G!! It’s just music! There are no lyrics at all! And notice that the council said the block is on “indecent and Western music”…how about just indecent Western music? We have a lot of crap on the radio these days, and a crackdown on that isn’t a terrible idea. But ALL Western music? Fuck you President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!
Then there’s America’s very own President Bush, who recently admitted to using (illegal) wire taps and insists that he will continue to do so. His comments: “I swore to uphold the laws. Do I have the legal authority to do this? And the answer is, absolutely.” Um, he just lied. Again. To America’s face. It is NOT legal to use a wire tap without approval. But he’s still doing it. So how come Clinton got impeached for lying about a personal matter that should never have been investigated (c’mon, so Monica gave him oral in the office…who gives a fuck)? But apparently Bush is allowed to get away with disobeying the frickin constitution? And that’s just one issue. Don’t get me started on Iraq. So… fuck you too President George W. Bush!
