In 1950 there were 2.5 billion humans on Earth. By 2000 that number jumped to 6 billion. By 2050 we’re projected to hit 9.5 billion. Based on the amount of food required, it’s estimated that Earth could only sustain 10 billion humans. That limit will be approached within our lifetimes.
So with those numbers in mind, I propose we develop a licensing requirement for reproduction with mandatory reversible sterilization at birth. When ready to have children, people would apply and be evaluated based on having applicable income/resources (30pts) along with an analysis for severe genetic disease (20pts) and a metric for measuring ones conscience (50pts).This combines practicality for both the individual and the collective while maintaining a strong moral element.
A passing score would be 69, just to make it sexy, but gradually increase by 1 every 5 years until finally capping at 75.
Whether you agree or disagree with population control, an answer to the problem WILL inevitably be necessary. I’m in favor of being proactive about it rather than waiting to hit the breaking point.
Also, I hate traffic.
